Starting January 2024, Plastic packaging, Blik (tin cans) and Drink cartons (PBD) will be separated after collection. This means you'll no longer see the orange PBD containers in the streets. From January 2024 onward, you can dispose of your PBD waste in your general waste container.
Where can I put my PBD waste until January?
As long as the orange PBD containers are present, you can use them. The containers are spread throughout the city, you'll recognize their orange color. Check the Cure app or www.mijnafvalwijzer.nl to see where the nearest PBD container is.
From January 2024 we'll remove the orange containers in phases.
PBD in short
- The 'p' stands for plastic packaging, so no other plastic like buckets, toys or plastic pools.
- The 'b' stands for blik, or tin cans. This means food cans or soda cans. However, soda cans also hold a deposit.
- The 'd' stands for drinking cartons. Think of cartons for milk, fruit juice or yogurt.
The packaging should be empty, but rinsing it isn't necessary.
Separation is still important!
The separate collection of papier waste, glass, textiles and organic waste will continue to be important.
It is not possible to separate these after the fact.
If organic waste is present in the general waste container, the waste will stick together.
What happens to the PBD waste after 2024?
After collection, the waste is sorted out and reused into new products or resources. By doing this after collection, we're able to collect way more useful resources.
By sorting after collection, Cure no longer has to manage separate containers and ride separate routes to empty those containers. Cure can use that capacity to further optimise our current services.
This is good for the environment and for your wallet.
The plastic is made into tennis balls, flooring or new packaging. The metal is reused in the metal industry. The paper pulp is reused into resources for the paper factory. Polyethylene and aluminum are reused for pans, coffee pots and aluminum tubes.
